Frequently asked questions
IS IT FOR ME?
Do I need to have a specific level of Spanish?
No. You can start even if you don't speak Spanish yet or have very little knowledge.
If you already have a foundation, you don't need to speak perfectly either. You can stop, look for a word, or take your time to construct what you want to say.
The sessions are based on where you are now and what you need to develop to begin communicating in Spanish.
I understand quite a bit of Spanish, but I have trouble speaking it. Can these sessions help me?
Yes. Understanding Spanish and being able to express yourself fluently don't always go at the same pace.
During the sessions, you can talk with me and identify what is holding you back when you try to express an idea.
Do I have to stop translating mentally from day one?
No.
If you have been relying on translation for a while, it is not expected to disappear overnight.
The idea is to give you opportunities to think, react, and express your thoughts directly in Spanish, without expecting you to stop translating mentally from day one or within a set timeframe.
What happens in the introductory class?
It is a free 30-minute initial meeting to get to know each other and understand your starting point.
If you already speak Spanish, I'll be able to hear how you express yourself and see what happens when you try to communicate what you want to say. If you are starting from scratch, we can chat about what you want to learn and the situations in which you would like to use the language.
Based on that first meeting, I can guide you on which of the available packages might best fit your needs.
It’s not a test and it doesn’t obligate you to buy a package. It also lets you get to know my way of working before deciding if you want to continue.
WHAT THE SESSIONS ARE LIKE
Are the sessions individual?
Yes. The sessions are individual.
Are the sessions traditional Spanish classes?
Not exactly.
Conversation is the starting point. Based on what happens while you speak, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, sentence structure, or other aspects that are interfering with what you want to communicate can be addressed.
We start from what happens while you speak and, from there, we address what needs more precision.
What happens if I make a lot of mistakes when speaking?
Making mistakes does not prevent you from participating in the conversation.
You don't have to wait to construct a perfect sentence. When needed, I can help you reformulate an idea, clarify it, or find another way to express it.
Mistakes also help reveal what is hindering what you want to communicate.
What can we address during a session?
It will depend on what comes up while you converse and the situations in which you want to use Spanish.
It can be vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, sentence structure, comprehension, or different ways of expressing an idea with greater clarity.
How long is each session?
Each session lasts 50 minutes.
Where do the sessions take place?
The sessions are online and take place via Google Meet.
PACKAGES AND TIMEFRAMES
How do I know which package to choose?
There are four packages:
5 sessions
To work on something specific.
10 sessions
When several areas need more time and ongoing attention.
15 sessions + 1 additional session
To allow more time to revisit areas you’ve already worked on that still need attention.
20 sessions + 2 additional sessions
This is the most extensive package, suited to broader needs for using Spanish.
Choosing a package does not guarantee a particular level or result.
If you still don’t know which one to choose, you don’t need to decide before the introductory class. After learning about your starting point and what you want to develop, I can guide you on the package that might best fit your situation.
How much time do I need to speak Spanish more fluently?
There is no number of sessions that can guarantee it.
Your starting point, the situations in which you use the language, the aspects that are interfering when speaking, and your contact with Spanish outside of the sessions all influence this.
Therefore, no package is tied to a specific outcome within a set timeframe.
Do I have a deadline to complete my sessions?
Yes. Each package has a time limit for completing the sessions:
5 sessions: up to 2 months.
10 sessions: up to 4 months.
15 sessions + 1 additional: up to 6 months.
20 sessions + 2 additional: up to 8 months.
You do not have to follow a fixed weekly schedule. The sessions can be spread out within that period according to the availability we agree on.
BETWEEN SESSIONS
Will I receive study materials?
When helpful, I can share resources related to what we are covering: vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, writing, audio recordings, videos, or songs.
These resources complement what comes up in the sessions and do not necessarily follow an identical program for everyone.
Can I ask questions between sessions?
Yes. You can make brief inquiries via WhatsApp.
I respond within the next 24 business hours. If a question requires a more in-depth explanation or work, it will be addressed during a session.
CHANGES, PAYMENTS AND CANCELLATION
What happens if I need to change or cancel a session?
If you need to change the date or time of a session, please give at least 24 hours’ notice so it can be rescheduled according to Alejandro’s availability.
If you give less than 24 hours’ notice, Alejandro will try to find a solution when circumstances allow, but rescheduling is not guaranteed. If you do not attend a scheduled session without notice, the session may be considered completed.
If Alejandro needs to cancel or change a session, it will be rescheduled at no additional cost to you.
What happens if I am late or don't show up?
The session begins and ends at the reserved time.
If you arrive late, you can use the remaining time, but the session will not be extended beyond the scheduled time.
If you do not attend a scheduled session without notice, the session may be considered completed.
If the delay is on my part, you will keep the full 50 minutes of your session.
How are payments made?
Before you begin, you’ll know the total price of your package, the payment terms, and the corresponding payment dates.
If your contract is subject to Quebec consumer protection rules, payments will be made in accordance with those rules.
For students in other jurisdictions, the applicable payment terms will be provided before enrollment is finalized.
What happens if I start a package and then decide not to continue?
You can request cancellation in writing.
The applicable conditions depend on the laws governing your contract. If your contract is subject to Quebec consumer protection rules, the cancellation and any applicable amount or refund will be calculated in accordance with those rules.
The full terms are provided in the contract you receive when you enroll.
Would you like to know what a first conversation with Alejandro would be like?
The introductory class is free and lasts 30 minutes. It allows you to meet Alejandro, talk about your starting point, and then decide if you want to continue.
